I'm a bit of a 'househead', meaning; I'm a disc jockey who's grown up with 4/4 beats as the key musical expression. Now, DJing isn't typically the easiest way to pay the bills, so one must work in other creative professions in the day.

For me, the visual arts and music art tied together permanently and completely. This means, when I design or do some digital art, I need some tunes!

My favorite sources of unlimited listening satisfaction:

Music-101.com
Undergroundhouse.net
Samurai.fm

Please add to this list. I'm sure our members don't get their kicks from the sound of silence.

That's interesting, Keith. I come from a background as working bar musician and I love classic rock. I also like traditional jazz and classical, such as baroque or chamber pieces.

When I'm trying to write text I usually have instrumental classical playing. If I was designing, then I may be also inclined to play rock or jazz.

I'm curious to hear the other answers.

I love house music, too. Although I mostly consider house music as relaxing music and people often find that weird. XD

Whatever works is good I guess, Flutes. When I think of house, I think of a large venue with a loud sound system and flashing lights, although I haven't actually heard much house music in clubs.

Is house mostly instrumental as opposed to having vocals?

I don't have any house in my collection. I do notice that there are some "house" presets in my B4 which is a virtual organ program.

I don't think I ever have listen to that, but when I do art, I love to feel sexy, but in control. So the music that I listen to has to relax me but also make me feel ontop of the world. Usually art peices come out just the way I wanted them to or even better. It surprizes me.

Feeling sexy really helps me when I make posters. I never fail to get people's attention with my posters!

I have an idea of what house music sounds like, but I'm not very familiar with it. Is there any cross over from artists in other genres to house?

I have never heard of "house". I love music. I have it on all the time. Sometimes the radio, sometimes CDs or MP3s. I do not have one genre that I like better. It all depends on the mood I am in for me to select music. Today, I am in a blues mood but my head hurts right now so I am sitting in the quiet....lol.

I prefer to work in silence! Not sure why, but music just distracts me. Kind of weird since I worked for four years in a recording studio, designing cd covers while bands played just a few feet away. You would think I´d be used to it!

I find that later on in the day, I may choose to work in silence. Also, it depends on what I'm doing.

I'll listen to louder, rockier stuff if I'm doing things like tracking submissions as opposed to trying to come up with new ideas.

For me it is simple, Itunes on random with the minibrowser always on top. If there is anything that comes on I don't like hit at the moment hit skip and away i go again. On the other hand if I want to hear more, turn of shuffle for a while.
