Hi,

I have read several places that Banners for advertisement on Internet, is slowly but surely passing away. I was wondering if anyone else knows anything more?

Have your work with banners been reduced over the last couple of months?

Well the basic reason for Google's huge success (aside from that little search engine part), is all the money their text ads make.  Because the Google ads scan the pages and determine the best ads to show, it kind of killed the concept of banner ads.

On high-traffic sites, or sites with certain types of content, dynamic ads like those from Google may actually not work as well as plain old banner ads.   For example, on CNN.com or another news site, dynamic ads may not work well because:

a) the content is a depressing, news story about war and death and an inappropriate ad may show up
b) too much different content is on the page for the robot to figure out the best type of ad to show

The normal, plain old vanilla "banner ad" type business is still huge business - just like print magazine ad marketing, the marketing business will adjust to new technology but in essence it always boils down to showing the consumer and image, and inspiring them to take interest in the ideas behind the image.

40 years in the future when we're all surfing the internet directly with our brains, I think the concept of 'banner ads' will still be around: a big, blatant advertisement, except then it will be literally 'in your face'..

BTW, we just launched our own affiliate program, complete with some banner ads in various sizes, as well as search input boxes.  You earn 10% commission for referrals, even if you don't sell art on the site.. have a peek: http://www.zymmetrical.com/Info/Affiliates/tabid/1449/Default.aspx

Most people don't like to see advertisements. We surf website for the content we are searching for.

Difference between word ads and banner ads:
- word ads can blend into website, which visitor might accidentally click on (and help you earn a few cents). Also it does not yell right into the visitor's face that "I'm an advertisement!!!"
- now people recognize banner ads as advertisements. Most will probably avoid clicking on banner ads as a result. fanciful as it can be, but probably not as useful as word ads...

I'll definitely give the affiliates program a try! thanks Keith!

I am not sure why it would be decreasing unless the number of new businesses is decreasing. I have seen a lot of banner makers getting a ton of business so I am not sure maybe in that area they are?

I do not believe that the banner ads are in trouble. I seem to see more of them now then I ever did. I do not mind them sometimes as long as there is not so many of them around that it makes it hard to work online. I really do not like pop-ups at all. As long as they are within a webpage I can handle that.

I don't think that the popularity of banner ads is decreasing. In every websites you must find banner ads.So how can we say that it's not popular now ?Now webmasters are normally choosing banner ads instead of text ads.

I don't think banner ads are going to completely disappear, especially when advertising in niches where surfers are more likely to be visually stimulated more than text oriented viewers.

For sites that aren't relying on Google as their main traffic source, and aren't using the Adsense program, banners are likely to be replaced with short video clips.

There will always be target markets where banners and other visual cues work better than text ads.

Very well said, banner ads are very much there, its all depends upon your target traffic and from where does it comes. Let me make you one thing clear, google in not the only thing for traffic, there are several other search Engine people target for their ads.

And i am sure banner ads are going to be there .
never hesitate to take the most difficult problem
