| I don't have a video camera yet, but my boyfriend wants to buy one. So maybe I can use it to make stock videos too.
But one thing I really don't understand... what kind of stock videos are needed? For photography and illustration I always see a use for it in magazines etc. But for videos I can't think of much uses...
So can anyone give me some examples for inspiration? | | | |

| While our photo, graphics and font areas are aimed at all kinds of clients, from people looking for an image for a greeting card, to a big magazine needing a layout image, the video section is much more specialized.
The kind of clips we need are ones that can be mixed into live video jockey performances at places like nightclubs, events, conferences, retail locations, etc. This covers quite a wide range of subject matter obviously.
I suggest checking out VJ Forums, it is probably the busiest forum dedicated to this topic. There is a huge amount of knowledge and experience there.

| Hmm... nightclubs...
At most of the nightclubs I have been at, the videos have been rather abstract, such as traffic in fast forward, or strange people talking with lots of flashing lights. I think the main theme would be lots of colour and lights.
But, then conferences would need completely different videos. This is definetly worth some thought. | | | |

| If I'm watching a TV drama and I see an aerial shot of a city, with no cast in it I usually assume it's stock video. Obviously it would be expensive to produce those shots.
Do you think that there's a market for establishing shots? I mean the type you see of office buildings or hospitals before the show cuts to an interior scene?

| Last week I started to look differenty to the TV, just focusing on what could be a stock video.
There was a program about disasters in the world, and I saw a close-up of a leaf with rain dropping on it. It probably was a stock video, because if you have to wait untill it rains it can take a while. Especially if you are making the tv show in the summer.
So I start to see what kind of videos are needed :) Now I only still need a camera lol. | | | |

| | I don't think you need any more suggestions and ideas about the stock video. But, if you want some more, I do. The close-up of a leaf with rain dropping on it, is really a nice think to watch and a nice stock photo too. But, it needs every amount of your patience to do that. If you are started doing that in the summer season, you should wait for next 3-4 months for that superb picture or video. LOL | | | |

| | Just found this thread and must say that it is very interesting. I never thought of stock video until I started considering creating a trailer for a novel I have coming out soon. I would suggest good film of weather events is also a good thing to make - thunderstorms, wind in trees, snow falling, etc. | | | |
