Do you know how the animated series Southpark is produced?
In the opening, it looks like they place characters and photograph the scenes. Is that a joke?
Also, they seem to superimpose photos sometimes. Is this sort of cut and paste or is it done digitally?
Sorry to draw your attention to the show if you don't have the stomach for it. |

I'm not really sure what you mean... do you mean they have drawings and photos in one scene? This is very easy in for example flash.
You can't edit photos in flash tough. You can draw the southpark characters in flash and animate them and animate the photos tough.
For editing the photos I'm pretty sure they use Photoshop and edit every frame. This is a lot of work, so that's why most backgrounds are drawings, just like the characters. It does add something funny to the movie tough I think!
Disney uses a lot of watercolor paintings for the backgrounds for example. It looks great but it's a lot of work to edit every frame. (there are about 24 frames a second) |

Is it a TV Show or a movie ?
The name sounds like a cartoon. |

You don't know southpark? You are really missing something in your life! It's a VERY funny cartoon tv serie, and they have a movie too.

Yes nancy, I think an example of drawings and photos in the same frame was when they portrayed Ben Affleck. His face looked like a photo. In at least on season of the opening credits, you can see someone's hands placing the characters. I don't know if they photograph the scenes, or if this was a joke. I guess I don't trust Southpark |

I saw the intro of southpark !!!! I guess I normally switch channel too late to see the intro, or just don't pay attention.
I'm pretty sure they filmed the hand on a white background. Then in After Effects removed the background. Imported the movie in flash, and drawed and animated everything else in flash in a layer below the hand. |

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear.
It looks to me like the animated show Southpark is animated by cut paper characters placed on a paper background and photographed, similar to stop motion animation, except for their mouths when they have dialog.
I find support for that theory in the opening credits when you can see someone's hand placing characters. I'm just not sure if that's a joke, though.

With Southpark, I think they started out with a pretty small budget, but later, after getting as popular as they are, their budget most likely allowed them to animate all of it, even though it looks like stop motion animation. |

South Park rocks :)
To my knowledge it is stop motion animation. Found something about it on Google. |
