I would love to start making Sepia Portraits of my children that have an old fashioned theme. This is totally new to me because I am only familiar with taking shots with my digital camera and they're usually outdoors. What would be the best way to start doing indoor sepia closeup portraits? Digital or film?

Digital I think. I would also go as far as to set up an antique background with props. You can do these types of pictures and make them look very real. I have several of my daughter we did that way and they turned out great.

Thanks Brandbla8! That does sound like a great way to get authentic looking sepia portraits. I just love the old fashioned type outfits you can use and even the Old West backgrounds would make them look more like I'm wanting them to. I wonder where one might find those backgrounds at a reasonable price?

Well, digital is the preferred option for sepia portraits. Because there are a lot of options to change the antique background in a natural manner.

You wouldn't necessarily have to purchase a background as you could create it yourself, or go someplace that you can find things. Like an antique store...maybe a corner or something you could just take a casual snapshot in. Or else, right now there are many pumpkin patches around where you could find farm type of backgrounds with maybe wagon wheels and such...straw bales...think about the time you'd want to portray and what would have been around during that time.
