Ok I have seen a lot of photos where the whole picture is black and white but like one or two items are in color. How do you do this?

basically you use a color photo and play around with the hue and saturation etc... www.good-tutorials.com has some pretty good ideas on where and how to start

I just posted in a thread in the tutorials section on how to do this. Anyway, you use a black and white gradient mask to turn your photo into black and white. Then set your palette to the default black and white. Using any kind of brush. paint on the part you want to be colored.

I figured it out and in case anyone else is wondering here is how I do it. First you get the picture you want to use. You make a duplicate layer of that photo by going to layers then pick duplicate layer. You then have two layers and the layer that you just made you hide by clicking the eye icon next to it. Then you click on your original photo and go to enhance, then adjust color then remove color (I am using 6.0). Now you click the eye icon to make the duplicate layer visible. It should look like a color photo again. Click on that layer and then you will see that it is a color picture again. Choose the erasure tool and erase everything you don’t want to be in color. I do all the edges then when I am getting close to the part I want colored I zoom in and take it really slow and continue until I have it the way I like. Then go to layers and choose flatten image and you are all done!

Great job explaining that one. I like to play around with my pictures as well. It is fun to see what your pictures can look like in different ways it is adjusted.

Ahhh, so this must be the way those pics are made I was talking about in another thread. I would love to do some like this of my kids, but first I need to find a new and better digital camera.
