Which type of program do you use for your digital art? I use GIMP faithfully because it offers the same tools as Photoshop. In my opinion the only difference between them is the price.

I was forced to use Gimp for one assignment and actually didn't find it too bad. I'm used to Photoshop so that's why I've stayed faithful to Adobe so far but when it comes time to renew my license I could definitely see making the switch just because of the price tag.

I've downloaded Gimp often enough, but I find it more difficult than Photoshop for one reason or another. I know that it's mostly the same and all, but I could never manage to do what I wanted with it, so I just stayed with Photoshop after that. I do love that Gimp offers all the utilities a graphic artist on a budget needs though! I know that Photoshop is wonderful and all, but I think it's a bit too steep in the price.

What is Gimp? I love photoshop but honestly it is so expensive, how much is Gimp and is it pretty user friendly? Photoshop gave me a bit of a struggle but I finally got down the features I needed.
thanks in advance

I've tried Gimp and like silversong642, I found it slightly difficult to use. After getting used to Photoshop's shortcuts and stuff, I never managed to find my way around to get what I wanted to do with it, but it is a good alternative to the expensive Photoshop and takes time getting used to.

None of the above. :) I use Paintshop Pro, mostly because it is what I started with and I am comfortable with it now that I do not want to try something else. I did check out GIMP once - since it was free - but was a bit overwhelmed with the prospect of learning another piece of software completely.

I will choose Photoshop over gimp because I don’t know Gimp and I haven’t been able to use photo editing software other than Photoshop. I’m afraid that I’m just a one-sided.

I've heard many good things about GIMP, and I actually downloaded it, but I have yet to use it. It's just that I'm so used to Photoshop that I'm too lazy to switch programs.

Which is the same reason I don't get a Mac instead of a PC.

I like Photoshop but the new one that I have bought is not working so I’m force to download Gimp.  I have never used it on my entire life so I guess that it would take a while before I could get use to it.

PhotoShop is the winner when compaired to GIMP, but ...

GIMP is free! The development of GIMP is active. And that is the reason I am using it, and be happy with it. If you like that is looks a little like PhotoShop then you can use GIMPshop.

At first I thought that using Gimp would be so hard because I have never used it on my entire life but after browsing through the software I found it easy to use.  It almost works like Photoshop except that Photoshop would have given me a better result for the logo that I have designed on Gimp.

I`d say Photoshop by a mile, Whether your creating a Wallpaper, Sig or just retouching a Photograph. The tools Adobe Photoshop is providing are just un matchable. GIMP may be decent, but its just not as good as Photoshop.. Well, Thats my opinion having used both, GIMP and Adobe Photoshop CS3

For me Gimp is the best if you are looking for those free software but Photoshop would still hold the position overall. Photoshop is much easier to use and a lot of books can be buy on using this software.

I simply use what ever is already on my computer or what comes with my camera. I am not even sure what all the names of the programs are. I just know it came free so that is a big plus to me.
